"Call no man father!" (Matt. 23:9)

1. Explain the verse in context, and how that application of the verse proves too much; that it is about humility, not honorifics;
2. Explain that this is one of Jesus' many rhetorical devices in the Gospels that do not admit of a strict literal reading;
3. Explain how St. Paul referred to himself as a "father" to his flock;
4. Explain how there are instances in other parts of the Bible where the faithful call men "fathers";
5. Explain how the Ordinal prompts addressing the bishop as "reverend father in God;"
6. Await their reply:

"Call no man father!" (Matt. 23:9)

Seriously, it's like trying to reason with children.
