The Unspeakable Dullness of False Religion
"The disgraceful behavior of Mariann Budde at Tuesday’s 'prayer service' at the Washington National Cathedral has garnered a considerable amount of well-deserved criticism. I have little to say about it, other than what has already been said. I must confess, however, that I am a bit surprised at the level of outrage and indignation expressed by many conservative Christians who are, apparently, ignorant of the history of the Episcopal Church over roughly the last half century. The 'National Cathedral' is a vestige of that denomination’s once prominent place in American cultural and political life; a place that has long since been supplanted by the godless secularism that all mainline churches now seek to imitate and appease. In the social, religious, and political context of contemporary American culture, a pitifully frail woman cosplaying in Anglican liturgical garb, lecturing the President of the United States like a nagging school marm, looks more like a sketch from the British comedy troupe Monty Python than anything remotely resembling 'speaking truth to power' (as Budde’s defenders have laughably claimed). . . .
False religion (especially the kind that wears a thin veneer of Christianity as a skin suit) is, and always will be, “unspeakably dull.” The appropriate response is not over-the-top outrage or indignation, but one big collective yawn."
And from Robert A.J. Gagnon:
"Budde's attack on the President at the Inauguration National Prayer Service was divisive. It did the opposite of bringing about the unity that she was hypocritically touting (defining "unity" around agreement with her own hard-Left positions). Her promotion of "transgender children," effectively encouraging impressionable children to take steps to get chemically castrated and surgically mutilated in opposition to the design of the Creator, was both heretical and a form of child abuse. She is one of the "Jezebels" that the risen Christ warned about in his Letters to the Seven Churches in Revelation 2-3.
Her refusal to acknowledge the problems posed to the country by the Biden administration's promotion of illegal immigration across the southern border indicates how far she is out of touch with reality. She could not exegete her way out of a paper bag. "Welcoming the stranger" has nothing to do with promoting illegal entrance into the country without vetting while those who follow immigration procedure must wait in line. Trump is not against vetted, legal immigration.
The Biden administration's promotion of unvetted illegal immigration was all part of an election cheating scam: Allow millions of persons to cross the southern border unvetted, persons who will be heavily dependent on government services and thus much more likely to vote Democratic; send illegal immigrants to swing states; thwart all efforts at voter verification by the states; and as soon as the votes in Congress are there, to pass a sweeping and radical amnesty bill. Who cares what crimes will be committed or what financial burdens it may cause citizens? The important point, Democrats aver, is to win elections by any means necessary.
